Okay, Bristol International Comic and Small Press Expo is on at the weekend. It doesn't exactly trip off the tongue, does it? Anyway, this year I actually have tickets and am meeting friends there. Planning out which panels I want to attend, too. Whether that'll actually go to plan, of course, is another matter.
Already a clash, with the Image and Independents panel clashing with the DC one. Darn.
In theory, I want to hit the following panels:
CHRIS CLAREMONT... OF MUTANTS, MARVEL AND MARADA
All this and much, much more is discussed when famed X-meister Chris Claremont sits down with Mike Conroy to chew the fat not only about his long and wide-ranging career but also what he’s got lined up for the future.
Might be able to catch some of:
Creating Creator-Owned Comics the Image Comics Way
Richard Starkings (Elephantmen) leads a roundtable discussion about creator-owned comics. Panelists Charlie Adlard (The Walking Dead), Ian Churchill (Marineman), David Hine (Strange Embrace, The Bulletproof Coffin), Kieron Gillen (Phonogram), and Paul Grist (Jack Staff) will define creator-owned comics, describe how they became part of Image Comics, and discuss how creator-owned comics make comics more fun for both creators and readers.
...before...
DC UNIVERSE
Bob Wayne DC V-P Sales previews the DC Universe with Paul Cornell, David Hine, Lee Garbett, Jesus Saiz & Ramon Bachs.
I kinda also want to catch this panel, since I think it might be relevant to Scans_Daily.
Digital Comics -Alex Fitch, Kevin Mann
With the release this month of the iPad, we ask how are publishers, creators and retailers adapting to the growing number of digital devices able to carry comics? What is the impact of piracy on the industry, and will it force publishers to finally seek a more sustainable digital business model?
Hosted by REDEYE MAGAZINE's Barry Renshaw
Then on Sunday...
THE EAGLE AWARDS 2010... AND BEYOND
Be among the first to learn this year’s nominees in the comicbook industry’s longest running awards. Not only that but you can be in on the ground floor as awards organiser Cassandra Conroy, Barry Renshaw, Glen Carter and special guests unveil the next step in the evolution of the Eagles. Backed by such top names as Peter Bagge, Karen Berger, Howard Chaykin, Steve Epting, Dave Gibbons, Geoff Johns, Denny O’Neil, Jeff Smith, Bryan Talbot, and Brian Wood.
MMMS the Next Generation?
This months sees the dawn of the Heroic Age from Marvel… a ideal jumping on point or Disney marketing?
Join Paul Cornell, Phil Noto, Kieron Gillen, Neil Edwards and Rob Williams as Joel Meadows investigates.
CLAREMONT & DAVIS - WHEN TITANS TALK
Almost 25 years after their first collaboration, Excalibur co-creators Chris Claremont and Alan Davis sit down for an intimate chat with Mike Conroy in which they discuss what brought them together, their various joint projects and each other.
Also want to hit the artists alley/Sketch-a-thon and try and get some sketches from Phil Noto, Lee Garbett and Mike Collins and try and hit the Mike Carey, Paul Cornell and Alan Davis signings.
AND OMG I JUST NOTICED LEW STRINGER'S GOING TO BE THERE! OMFG LEGEND!!!!
Ahem. Anyway, that's the plan. Which will probably come crashing down on the actual weekend, knowing the way it goes. Although, since I've never been to a comics con before, who knows? I may be surprised.
For those who have attended cons before, what should I be looking for?
