What an age of wonders we live in. Finally the day has come where you can make gay cowboy dolls based on movie characters hump each other, because some genius on eBay is selling a handmade 'Brokeback Mountain' doll set, including dolls based on the Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhall characters, 2 horses, a campfire, a dog, a tent, a liquor bottle and a tree. The dolls come with a hand painted background set and are fully pose-able. Or at least it says they're fully poseable. Although what poses you want to get them into is up to you.

A Hartland man was treated at a Pittsfield hospital after he nailed himself to a cross. The 23-year-old man apparently was trying to commit suicide Thursday evening in his living room, the Bangor Daily News reported.

Somerset County Sheriff Barry DeLong said Monday that no charges will be filed. "There is no crime here," he said.

Police said the man appeared delusional and told them he had been "seeing pictures of God on the computer." He told them he had not seen the hit movie "The Passion of the Christ," which depicts the Crucifixion of Jesus.

Lt. Pierre Boucher said the man took two pieces of wood, nailed them together in the form of a cross and placed them on the floor. He attached a suicide sign to the wood and then proceeded to nail one of his hands to the makeshift cross using a 14-penny nail and a hammer.

But, clearly, the plan wasn't very well thought-out:

"When he realized that he was unable to nail his other hand to the board, he called 911," Boucher said.

(I don't think everyone read irish_star's journal, so they may have missed out on this. But [livejournal.com profile] irish_star was there, smacking everyone with a pillow on behalf of the rest of us I'm sure.)

"Roughly 1,000 people drawn by internet postings and word-of-mouth converged near San Francisco's Ferry Building on Tuesday night for a half-hour pillow fight.

The underground event erupted at 6 p.m. in the center of Justin Herman Plaza with a mass rush of shrieking, laughing combatants - many of whom arrived with pillows concealed in shopping bags, backpacks and the like.

Within minutes, pillows were arcing, feathers were flying, and by the time the Ferry Building's clock tower clanged the half-hour, the plaza and hundreds of people were covered in white down that gave the scene a wintry lustre.

"I haven't giggled so hard for a really long time,'' said San Francisco resident Amy Davis, who lasted for most of the battle, but pulled out toward the end (heh heh.) when she had her fill of breathing feathers.

Amacker Bullwinkle, a Palo Alto artist with purple streaks in her hair who claimed affiliation with a mysterious group called the Pillow Fight Club came with a camera and because of a knee injury mostly stayed on the edge with about a third of the crowd who watched as hundreds of others beat the stuffing out of each other.

"No injuries, no cops and lots of smiles,'' Bullwinkle said after it was all over.

It's been a pretty good year for British music - there's actually some damn good bands emerging. Out in front by miles are the Kaiser Chiefs who've produced a debut album where every single track is a corker. That takes some doing and it's been a while since I've loved everything a band's put out there.

Why is this on my mind at the moment? Well, tonight's the night of the Brit Awards - the British awards for popular music. Frankly I couldn't give a damn on the whole but there's a couple of people I want to do well. The Kaiser Chiefs deserve to clear up in their categories, but they're up against some pretty stiff competition. As does K.T. Tunstall whose unique talent should ensure she gets Female Artist of the Year.

A few other bands worth mentioning that have emerged this year - Hard-Fi, The Magic Numbers, The Arctic Monkeys..

Anyway, to celebrate, a few mp3s that I'm loving at the moment:

The Arctic Monkeys - When the Sun Goes Down
Milk Kan - Bling Bling Baby!
KT Tunstall - Black Horse and the Cherry Tree
The Kaiser Chiefs - I Predict a Riot
