Christmas update!
Dec. 25th, 2003 07:22 pmNice relaxing day. I think this has been one of the least stressful Christmases we've had. Haven't had to rush to go anywhere, just had Christmas Day here with my parents, which is a first. Usually we either have the whole family round here or go somewhere else for the day.
With my sister's wedding on Saturday, she's had plenty to prepare for the wedding and has spent today with her husband-to-be's family, which is fair enough. My other sister stayed in Devon with her family, I think they went to her husband's folks for Christmas day. Also fair enough. To be honest, what with funerals, work and so on all going on, and the impending wedding, the chance for a couple of day's 'peace' has been welcomed.
So, got up at a leisurely hour and helped my mum with the minimal preparations for Christmas dinner. was all fairly easy. Food to be cooked, but that just involved popping it into the oven and standing well back. We sat and watched the traditional Morecombe and Wise Christmas Special, which is still funny even after 30 years, then sherry and the christmas dinner. All really nice. Just gone 7.30, we ate at one and I'm still not hungry. Good turkey and stuffing.
After eating our dinner we settled down in front of the telly and fell asleep for an hour watching Top of the Pops. After watching the Queen's Speech (or missing most of it in my case) we watched a bit more TV then opened presents. Not many this year, I opened those from my sister in Deon who I'll see at the wedding but not over Christmas, and those from my folks. Mainly a gift of money from my folks, but some chocolate liquers to be enjoyed.
The presents from my sister were a little more interesting. The 'Let it Be Naked' CD, the stripped down version of the Beatles abum without the overblown Phil Spector production. Look forward to hearing that, although I can't imagine it'll be -that- different. Main present was the 'Pythons on Python' autobiography of Monty Python that does actually look like a really interesting read. (and pretty pictures too. Huzzah.)
After presents, time to watch Stuart Little (which was slushy but amusing in parts. cute.) and then Some Like It Hot, which I'm currently missing to write this. Just needed a slight breather.
Time to pour myself another Baileys and relax.
Merry Christmas all.
