I gotta admire your talents

I admit it, I'm a sucker for TV talent shows. Not always. There's plenty of the X-Factor and Britain's Got Talent experience that makes me want to smack myself in the face, but there's also stuff like Paul Potts, the telephone salesman coming on stage and blowing everyone away with a perfect operatic performance. Shows like these are best when they're defying expectations.
For example, last night was the first episode of the new series of Britain's Got Talent where the general public audition for Simon Cowell and the other judges to try and win a place at the Royal Variety Performance. I understand there's a US version as well, but I'm not sure that the US breeds the same kinds of eccentrics as we seem to in this country. Like bonkers 59 year old Manjit Singh, whose talent is to pull a car with his ear.
Last night also threw out Demetrious Demetriou and his 12 year old son Lagi, who wowed the judges with some traditional Greek dancing.
Like I say, defying expectations.
And they weren't alone. 47 Year old Susan Boyle rolled into the auditions looking and acting like another of the bonkers bag-ladies who turn up every year and claim to have a great talent, this time claiming she wanted to be the next Elaine Page and saying she intended to sing "I Dreamed a Dream" from Les Miserables. And in the audience and at home we all cringed. How bad was it going to be?
God, I love being proved wrong.

Must I be so judgmental? My Core Values trainer would be appalled by me :(
