angelophile: (X-men Devolution)

And the second episode of the week, in an attempt to play catch up.

I guess following on from last episodes revelation that Mystique may have been part of the Weapon X program in the toonverse, it seems at first glance like we can expect a "Logan discovers his past" episode this week. One word: meh.

Just to clarify, it's just the fact that this has been done so many times and the prospect of the upcoming Wolverine movie doing exactly the same again that sparks that reaction. There's such a thing as retreading old groud too much and the opener makes me concerned that this is just going to be another "Logan's past catches up with him" story. Unless the other X-men are involved, this will be the second time in the season that a near solo Nightcrawler episode is followed immediately by a Wolverine solo episode, while other major players have yet to get more than a few lines.

Bonus points for us of the word "quagmire". Giggidy.

Emma mooning over Scott? Maybe that whole dark and broody thing isn't such a bad idea after all, Scott, my boy.

"Relax. Don't think about anything." This IS Logan we're talking about, Ems. Does he ever?

See, they could just make a half hour show of Bobby getting smacked around the head and I'd never get tired of it. While the dumb jock characterization (over less than savvy joker) isn't the one I'd have necessarily chosen, Bobby's been utterly endeering with it in this show and I imagine that someone, somewhere is writing cross-universe fanfics with him and Chase to their heart's content.

Awww, poor Hank. PWNed by Bobby's skillz. That must smart.

Ah, Cornelius and Thornton. Good to see they've gone back to Barry Windsor-Smith's creations for the original Weapon X scientists.

Geez, Rogue's on such a downer for Logan. Did he sleep with Rogue's mom or something? Um... well, come to think of it, probably.

Ahah. I though that was Radius in the flashback earlier. But apparently we'll have to wait a little longer for Alpha Flight cameos. Say hello to Maverick instead. Nice touch that they used his birth name too.

Maverick's daughter grew up kinda badass. Should I know who she is?

Actually, more badass than Sabretooth, who's frankly kinda limp. Dunno who his voice actor is but his voice isn't distinctive enough so he sounds like Wolverine-lite too. His character design's weak too, a step down from his Evolution version and, frankly, looking more like Wild Child than Sabretooth.

Back to flashback in time to see Maverick using his powers in an impressive way, as well as channeling Loony Tunes. Anvils should be dropped on Logan more often. And barns.

Ouch. That had to smart.

"She's probably legal now. It's okay to gaze soulfully into her eyes and then bang her, right?" Logan once again proving he should never be left alone with any young girls.

Dear lord, Emma's cleavage is positively cavernous. Are they channeling Jessica Rabbit in the animation or something? They sure like their cleavage shots on this show.

And ending on a bombshell, another loose end to be picked up later.

Conclusion: One of the weaker episodes of the series. Not bad, necessarily. Just nothing new. It has its highlights with the brief interplay with the other X-men and Maverick's role, but otherwise it's just another "Wolverine starts to remember his role in Weapon X" storyline that's all too common. Something fresh could have been delivered if the role of Maverick's unnamed daughter had been expanded, but aside from a brief spell of badassery and the suggestion she was gonna hop into bed with Logan at the end (okay, maybe that part's just down to interpretation), she was left practically a bank.

Not bad, but at mid-way through the series I was expecting a big event with the whole team, not another filler solo piece.

That's a pretty low rating, that's disappointing. And that is ridiculous cleavage.

I assumed the episodes were being made available online by a Canadian viewer, but now you seem to be ahead of us?

No, you're correct, these are the episodes that have aired in Canadia. This one was Sunday's episode.

And I'm rating out of 5. 2.5 is slap bang in the middle of that rating, so it's what I'd call average.

Okay, I saw the episode yesterday. I have been watching on Saturdays at noon, I didn't realize they aired on Sundays, I can't seem to find out when.

See, the thing is, Maverick's daughter readily believed the "they wiped my memory" bit, which I wouldn't really be satisfied with if I was waiting my whole life to get back at my father's killer. And when the flashbacks revealed the Sabre-truth (see what I did there?), that didn't help her any and it's not like she overheard the conversation. So, I don't see why she was all rosy toward Logan. I was impressed by her powers (though I now roll my eyes at the that-took-so-much-out-of-me-I-fall-to-my-knees cliché). I liked the ending though, hopefully this will open Maverick's eyes.
