So, I'm not, nor I ever have been Irish. Just the opposite. I imagine my family spent the better part of two centuries either ignoring the Irish or stealing their potatoes. So calls of "Happy St. Patrick Day!" mean nothing to me. The one time I went to Dublin I found that what Jo Brand said was true. I could say "Hello, can I have a pint of Guinness please?" and they'd hear "Hello, I'm Oliver Cromwell."
Still, having been to Ireland once I'm probably more Irish than most people who celebrate St. Patrick's Day.
Also, I know I'm gonna see a lot of posts today celebrating, despite the fact that St Patrick's Day was moved this year to the 15th March because of the clash with Holy Week. So, if you're celebrating today, stop it at once. Save your celebrating for a proper holiday, like Poisoned Blackberries Day, Stay Away From Seattle Day or National Beheading Day instead. It's not like anyone really needs an excuse to get drunk anyway. Especially if you're of Irish descent.
I'm gonna avoid my annual "you're American not bloody Irish anyway. You're only Irish if you were born in Ireland." rants because I always get stern letters of complaint. I get the same way around Thanksgiving. Sooner or later people will learn.
Anyway, whether it's today or not, I'm gonna go amuse myself by posting racially offensive X-men scans on
scans_daily
Oh, and I posted a picture of Shane MacGowan because he's not Irish either. He's from Tunbridge Wells.
