Okay, the premise this new X-men cartoon isn't that hot:

"When an explosive event shatters the lives of the X-Men and takes away their mentor, the beaten heroes walk away from it all. But then they're given a rare glimpse into the future, and see a world in utter ruin, ruled by giant destructive robots. A world that spiraled out of control because the X-Men had given up. So now the most legendary of all X-Men takes the lead - Wolverine! Reuniting these broken heroes, Wolverine embarks on the ultimate mission - to prevent the world's destruction. To rescue us from ourselves. To save the future."

Okay, bleh to Wolverine reuniting the X-men, but it makes sense to use the most well known X-men as your focal point to draw in other characters...

But..

The main writer's reportedly Greg Johnson, who wrote 26 episodes of X-men Evolution, 4 episodes of Beast Wars and the Marvel animated features: Doctor Strange , The Invincible Iron Man and Ultimate Avengers I and II.

There's ties to movie, comic and cartoon continuity (Jean and Professor X are wormfood early on, Scott and Emma are shacking up, Days of Future Past, Bobby's folks, Domino! Sammy the Squidboy! Astonishing X-men and Uncanny X-men costume designs! A premise not unlike the current Messiah Complex fallout.)

The animation looks slick. The character deigns are very nice. The voice acting's solid.

I'm actually surprisingly stoked for this.

Especially after the horrible Transformers Animated.

I'm a touch disappointed on stuff I heard earlier about this. It's the same old same old, characterwise. I understand the need for some mainstays (Wolvie, Cyke, Storm, ect), but mix it up a little bit. Giv us Sam and 'Berto and Dani as major players for once. Or even slip in Sofia or someone.

Domino's in the trailer. And Sammy the Squidboy! And Emma, who's not been a major player in a cartoon before.

There's potential.

That IS a lot of good stuff, but you're right. Really, really sucky premise.

I am really, really bored with Wolverine.

I'm not Wolverine's biggest fan but I accept this approach makes sense from a commercial standpoint. You focus on Wolverine, as he's the "star" of the X-men, as you draw in other characters. Once they're in play you can tell stories that use other characters a lot more. I don't expect Logan to continue to be the focus once the audience is familiarized with the rest of the X-men.

Putting, say, Cyclops in that role wouldn't have the same draw for the 6-12 year olds the cartoon's aimed at. I actually think the plot device is pretty smart and there's no reason why the cartoon won't be a lot more team based relatively early on.

Why is Wolverine so damn popular anyway? >.<
(Not that I like Cyclops any, but still.)

Search me, I've never quite understood it. I like the character, but he's far from my favourite.
