Since LJ went all Halloweenish...

...it's time to post this:
Let's make things clear. I don't hate Halloween. I just think it's an American holiday and attempts to commercialise it in this country are crass, annoying and should lead to throwing small children out of tower blocks. I shall be celebrating as any self respecting Englishman should - hiding indoors from all the ghosties and ghoulies and long-legged beasties and things that go bump in the night. It's not a holiday to be celebrated. It's a holiday to be feared.
That an entire nation missed the point of this is doesn't bother me, I just don't think we should follow suit.

Date: 2007-10-29 11:05 pm (UTC)I don't have a problem with dressing up for Halloween (or Samhain where I travel) Sure, it's a night that the veil between here and the spirit plane is supposed to be thinnest, and that needs caution.
But for my religion, it's also the start of the new religious year, and something that I SHOULD celebrate, for a couple reasons.
I'm more for kids going to parties, though, than door-to-door. Simply because I don't think it's fair I should feel pressured to stay home that night and use my hard earned cash to give little kids candy, and I have no kids, and they certainly don't do any 'tricks' for their treats.
