Dress rehearsal and stuff

So, our dress rehearsal was tonight. The set was all finished and props all found (I sent my lunchtime trying to track down a model battleship and thankfully did) and costumes polished off. Disappointingly, my pince nez glasses just didn't want to play ball and kept falling off, so I may have to replace them with plain glasses.
Anyway, dress rehearsal was... different from expected. I was expecting a number of technical errors. Instead, the technical operation was smooth and crisp with only one flawed section, which fell down to the lighting guys relying on a visual cue to turn up the lights. Unfortunately, it was hard to get a visual cue when the actors were dressed in black on a pitch black stage - so any problem was understandable and solved by adding a little light to the scene.
The actors, however, were less crisp, and I include myself. My lines were all pretty good, but there was a rather pregnant pause - thankfully covered by one of the leading ladies, when I should have come on and completely missed the cue. There were a few other minor glitches with my parts, but nothing an audience would notice.
Ahh, well, hopefully things will be ironed out by tomorrow.
In other news, the ferry is still off, so I faced the long drive home in the pouring rain, which was coming at the car horizontally. I don't think I ran any reds tonight (don't ask). Listed to Mark Radcliffe's show on BBC Radio 2 and it was wonderful wonderful entertainment. The guest was XTC's Andy Partridge, who was brilliantly witty, pleasant and a joy to listen to, both musically and as a guest, often outshining the sharp Radcliffe. Radio origami may be my new favourite gag. I recommend, if you get the chance, using the listen again option to check out tonight's show for yourselves.
