I'm back at work after my couple of days off to help with the set building for this week's play. Well, I say "help with", but it's turned out that I was the only one doing it. There were only three of us to actually get the parts of the set in place on Sunday, but a lot of the assembly has fallen in my hands. Will try and get some pics later tonight.

So, yeah, the last three days I've been working with the sound and lighting guy at the theatre to work on the best effects for the finale of the play where a barn burns down, complete with smoke, flames and falling beams. Which will be pretty impressive as long as there's no one inside it at the time since the falling beams will pretty much kill anyone that gets in their way. They're pretty hefty and come down with a hell of a crash even though they are fixed at one end.

So, the set is coming along but I'm absolutely exhausted having been down the theatre from about 10 in the morning until 11 or so at night for the past 3 days, building, constructing and come the rehersals, stage managing which means mostly sitting and watching until the finale. The hours of building and painting at the top of ladders and things have taken their toll, however, and I can barely move today, I'm so stiff.

The end result should be fairly effective, though. The set is pretty simple really, it's just the details that have taken a lot of work, most of all the 30 odd foot backdrop which has taken some major work.

Dress rehersal tonight before the performances Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. Last night was the technical, which means a lot of standing around while lighting, sound etc is set up. It was ridiculously slow though, and when it got to 11 and we still hadn't done a load of scenes, people just went. There was way too much pissing about with minor stuff from the tech guys and we might need to run certain things twice tonight, particularly the finale.

Gotta admit I'm feeling pissed off I was the only one set building though. Not only that but when we were transporting stuff to the theatre I misjudged a corner in the car park and fucked up the wing of my car pretty thoroughly, putting a hug crease and dent down the rear wing. And when you've spent 20 hours or so slaving single handedly over a set and the only comment you get is when an actor comes up and says "that log should be about four inches to the right" you feel like taking a hammer and doing them a serious mischief. I feel a little unappreciated.

Better get a good review. ;P

As regards the actors, everything looks pretty good. The actors all know their words pretty well, the pace is brisk and the play's entertaining. There are some nice performaces too. I would have liked to be in it, but with deadline biting and all the roles major ones it would have been too much.

Should be good. We'll get a better idea at the dress rehersal tonight, which is being run as a show without interruptions.

We shall see…
