First episode of the new Doctor Who just finished airing. A solid start to the new series and we see the first alien planet in the new run. Still more linked to Earth than I would have liked, but I guess I'll take what I can get. We saw the return of Lady Cassandra from the last season which led to some rather cliched fun. It seemed to be more of a amalgamation of sci fi cliches with a hoard of zombies thrown in for good measure than a unique plot, but still not bad. Just a little more subdued than I would have liked with a season premiere.
Some great lines though. I expecially liked the comment on Billie Piper's body:
"Oh my god! It's like living inside a bouncy castle!"
However, the next episode looks like a corker. Queen Victoria and the Doctor fighting werewolves in the wilds of Scotland. I'm sold.
Spent the day out in town - took a walk the two or three miles down to the town centre before the heavens opened. There was a French market in town, which meant everything was served with Gallic arrogance and five times as expensive as the same thing in a British market. Neeless to say I brought my fruit and veg from a Cockney barrowboy and came home.
The new news on the Transformers movie seems to be that Josh Duhamel (TV's Vegas) and Jon Voight will be the next to join the cast. I've never seen Vegas, but hear good things, but Voight is a legend. He makes up for the Buscemi disappointment.
Finished reading Walter Mosley's Devil in a Blue Dress. In all honesty, a pretty standard hard boiled dective novel with little to set it apart from most other Chandler wannabes except for the main antagonish being black. It's a solid book, but nothing truly spectacular or new. All the cliches are there - a villain, a betrayal, a femme fatale, the hardboiled language... As is, it was a good read but ultimately forgettable. Worth the 99p it cost me though.
Have family coming to dinner on Monday so tomorrow will see the big tidy up as usual.
