If anything was needed to put me off ever playing World of fucking Warcraft, I needn't look further than this.

I really glad I don't have any contact with disrespectful basement dwelling fucktards like this.

I haven't been able to find anything confirming it, but I've heard from others responding to the story that the article is incorrect - the 'funeral' wasn't for a person who died in real life, it was for the characters of a still-living person who decided to leave the game permanently. Which, if true, makes it a little less lame for the ones attacking and a little more lame for the ones holding the 'funeral'.

Some of the comments were right though, a game is not the place to have a memorial. It's common sense, you don't hold a memorial in the corner of a large sports bar (which is always the impression I get of WoW), you do it somewhere quiet. Good to know that the story was a fake :)

On the other hand, if someone from, say, XET died, where would you go to pay your respects? XET probably, right? If that's the environment you knew a person through it makes sense that's where you log into to pay your respects.

Mind you, you wouldn't do it in character either, but that wasn't the case here anyway.

If what Kirk says is correct I'm a little less hateful though.

To tell you the truth, if an online friend is close to me, I'd be connecting with them in more than one medium. In other words, we do hang out in XET, but we also talk to each other through IM and through our LJ's.

Also, keep in mind that XET is pretty small - it's like going to someone's house to hang out and play games rather than hanging out at a large sports bar where you have hundreds of strangers coming in and out at any given moment.

True, but on the other hand, not everyone from XET hangs out in the same "other places". So it still makes sense you'd all connect to the place you knew the person through.

Anyway, if it was genuine, it was dumb of them to expect people not to be arseholes, yeah. But still not cool.

These people exist outside of the game. Which just goes to prove my theory 'People are all weasels.'
