Don't you think it's funny that nothing's what it seems
when you're not looking forward?
Me, I'd like to think life is like a drink,
and I'm hoping that it tastes like bourbon.
You know that I've been drunk a thousand times,
and these should be the best days of my life,
Life, it's not what I thought it was.
Damn blast, look at my past,
ripping up my feet over broken glass.
Oh wow, look at me now,
I'm building up my problems to the size of a cow.
Ooooh, the size of a cow.
You know it would be strange to life life in a cage,
and only believe the things you see
that are written on the page.
How easy would it be home in time for tea,
and stop feeling like a sailboat rocking on the sea.
Just got back from my folks, where I spent the day with my parents, sisters, nephew and neice. A nice day, great fun. There were fireworks tonight so went and saw them and they were pretty spectacular. More again on Saturday. As usual, they had bands playing before and after the fireworks for the carvival. The band after were great. I've seen them before but they were pretty spectacular this time. They made me love them by doing a cover of the Stone Roses' "I Wanna Be Adored" and a brilliant mix of stuff from the Beatles, Stones, up to Snow Patrol, Oasis and stuff like that. Hard not to love a band that sticks Hi Ho Silver Lining next to Sit Down by James. The final version of I Am the Walrus was stunning. The lead guitarist wrong sounds I wouldn't have thought possible from his guitar with just an empty beer bottle Amazing.
Utopia rool.
Was listening to a similarly themed indieCD on the drive home and just ADORED it. And listening to the song above, the Wonderstuff's Size of a Cow, I was struck by how much FUN the bands of the early ninties seemed to be having. While Kurt Cobain was off topping himself, indie bands in the UK were singing songs like Weirdo or Can U Dig It?
It's hard to imagine the same now. These days Indie means stuff like Coldplay or Athelete. It's hard to imagine either of those bands coming up with something as wonderfully lively and ludicrous as Size of a Cow or a song like Get the Girl! Kill the Baddies! by Pop Will Eat Itself.
I mis the days when music was FUN.
