Transformers Movie Update
Nov. 29th, 2004 06:11 pm
Some major movements on the Transformers movie, according to the producer's boards (www.donmurphy.net.)
It appears to be pretty much the first case of not only a producer setting up a forum to ask fan's opinions, but also reading every post -and- changing some things depending on the fan's viewpoints.
Don Murphy has always been against size shifting, which ruled out some of the retro modes for the Transformers. Now it seems because of the massive debate over it on the site, he's actually LISTENED and changes have been made to Tom DeSanto's treatment in the script.
Don said:
"YOUR VOICES Heard
Just prior to leaving for five glorious days on the beach I sat down with the producers and John Rogers and went over where the story was going.
Remember - everything you post is read (at least by me) and when there seems to be a consensus it will be addressed if at all possible.
For example, a huge amount of fans want Cullen and Welker. (Prime and Megatron's original voice artists) While the truth is (no matter what you read anywhere else) that no one has been approached to do ANY voices (the process of filmmaking will make that the final decision of the director) it is something that has been heard and will be addressed when the time comes.
I can't go into where the story is going, only to say John is great and I have invited him on to the board.
And to put an end to a controversy that I never understood, I am pleased to tell you that John HAS come up with a plausible explanation that will allow some of the bots to mass/size shift.
This was important to a lot of you and I wanted you to know you have been heard.
Will it work? Will it be any good? Will it make it on to the screen? Who the hell knows?
The only thing I know for sure is we're trying here."
A poster replied with "Good news."
The reponse was:
"That's all you can say?
How about FUCKIN A DON THAT'S THE WAY TO GO NOW MAKE MEGATRON A GUN!!!!
Megatron's not gonna be a gone pal so stop thinking that way.
And GJC don't take offense- I'm just playing with you man. You rock!
So, no gun for Megatron. No surprise there considering that Hasbro will never manufacture a realistic toy pistol in these days.
I then asked "Has Simon Furman (TF guru, writer of the original Uk comics, US comics, Dreamwave comics, some episodes of Beast Wars etc etc. The Claremont of Transformers.) taken a look at the draft outline yet? I know you've met, just wondering if in his role as consultant he'd done any consulting yet."
The reply came:
"I"t's still early days with Simon- all I ever said was that we had a great first meeting. Remember that Tom Desanto knows the mythology better than probably anyone. And that this film, the first in hopefully a series, is not supposed to be too mythology heavy. We want to get every day folks to come as well as fans- and then rope them in for good. Who knows....
So, some exciting news for us Transformers geeks.

Date: 2004-11-30 01:58 am (UTC)Jazz's name probably can be Jazz in the movie, it's just the toy they may need to name Autobot Jazz or something.
Also, military jets and vehicles are likely to be used for the Cons, there aren't any licensing issues with those.
