So... comics and stuff

With the 'reload' going on I guess I should post about a few of the books I've read recently. Not a definateive list but, eh, you know.
Cut to avoid serious spoilers.
Uncanny X-Men #444 - Chris Claremont and Alan Davis' first issue back on Uncanny. Any good? Nothing special, really just an 'intro' issue. Not a big Davis fan. He doesn't offend me but he does nothing for me either. One thing though CLAREMONT - STOP HINTING THAT EVERY SINGLE FEMALE CHARACTER YOU HAVE IS BISEXUAL. Either have them come out or just quiddit.
Mystique #14 - Not bad, althought the suddenly agressive lesbian tendencies of Mystique were jarringly unsubtle. More so than the character has ever displayed in the past.
Ultimate X-men #45 - An end to what is pretty much Bendis's worst work. Now the book is saddled with an X-men team of about 14, ridiculously big, the death of a leading character was -really- badly handled and the story arc itself repetitive. The Whitehouse has been like a warzone in the Ultimates books, give it a rest guys.
Daredevil #60 - Nothing special, but a few of the talking heads scenes were funny. Not been enamoured with this arc though.
Excalibur #1 Nice art, but a few problems for me here. Notably the new 'students'. Wicked is just Jubilee with more ghosts and makes it seem less likely that Jubes will have a home in this book. The... other guy is so unmemorable that I don't even recall his name. However, the ending is the big moment. Magneto's back? Is he a ghost or something else? Could it be Xavier faked Magnus' death, knowing that the influence of Sublime was to blame for all the terrible acts he commited? I hope not. I'd prefer to see this Magnus be the real deal and the Hitler Magneto we've seen since even before Morrison's run turn out to be someone else entiely. Maybe Exodus, he played the part before. I do think the systematic attempt to undo all of Morrison's run within about 2 issues of it finishing is the dumbest move I've seen though.
New X-Men Academy X #1 - Not bad, the new artist works well, but it was a pretty lame story. Noriko has a missing knob that causes her to discharge everywhere? Sounds like a bad porno. I question anyone wantng to have Josh in the book though. Whiniest Guthrie Ever.
X-Men #157 - Pretty good actually, up there with Austen's better Uncanny stuff. I'm actually pretty impressed by his last 5 or so issues since She Lies with Angels. Salvador Larocca's art just fails to shine under the dreadfully bland inking and colouring, but there's actually some potential here. Snappy dialogue and some genuinely funny lines. The scene with Scott doing his headmaster thing surrounded by all the X-men was fun, there was a continuing number of in jokes and over all a pretty strong issue. Then there was the shock ending too. Xorn's back? Magneto claimed he was an invention, but if Xorn really exists, that means Magneto took his place and -deliberately held Xorn against his will-. That shows just how hardcore Mags had got when he was even abe to torture his fellow mutants. I hope they justify it a lot better than that.
