Whooooohoooooo!
Feb. 18th, 2004 09:45 am Looks like Marvel have FINALLY confirmed the rumours about the X-men Reloaded event in May. I think it's a bit of a shame they didn't keep the writers secret til the last minute, but it's nice to know anyway. Especially since
WEEDON'S GOT AN X-MEN BOOK! Okay, while that's not the -best- news it's still pretty good. Just finished reading the Fray trade and while it's pretty average on the whole, there is a couple of flashes of brilliance there. Fray was just a rehash of the original Buffy movie pushed into the future. Depending on what cast he ends up with I can see him doing a great job (I really -hope- he gets Emma and Scott. They deserve a decent writer.)
Anyway, the announcement on Comixfan reads:
"The fever pitch surrounding the publisher's X-Men Reload event resulted in the embargo date of February 25 being ignored in favour of revealing that the rumours of Joss Whedon and John Cassaday teaming up for a new Astonishing X-Men series in May were true. Also amongst the May solicitations are details of the new Excalbur and District X series', New X-Men reverting back to adjectiveless X-Men, New Mutants evolving into New X-Men: Academy X, a new X-Men Reload-themed edition of the Official Handbook of The Marvel Universe, and more.
Definately good news on the Weedon front, the write up on Excalibur sounds interesting (Xavier goes to rebuild Genosha). District X is a Bishop based crime book (which has potential, but could turn out to be another 'gritty crime drama yaddah yaddah yaddah' snoozefest. Mainly positive stuff here though - Alan Davies and Chris Claremont on Uncanny I'm getting to be more happy about, mainly because Claremont's actually doing a fairly decent job on X-treme at the moment.
Only a couple of poisoned apples in the cart though. Austen retaining a title is BAD, particlarly when it looks like it's possible he could end up with the school based book and therefore Emma and Scott (sob!). I don't want Emma falling permanently into his hads. Godammit, she and Scott had only just developed real characters under Morrison. The idea of them ending up as a soggy romance melodrama like Angel and Paige brings me to tears,
Also the renaming of New Mutants seems a bit unnecessary, but we'll see how that develops I guess. I can understand the reasoning for wanting to make it more of a core book, but...
Hopefully we'll still see one of Morrison's students in the book. Beak! Beak! (Although apparently he appears in Exiles. WHY?)
