He takes over on Uncanny X-men and actually starts off pretty well, bringing an interesting couple of characters into the team (Juggernaut and Northstar) and wries Stacy X excellently. Then in the past few months his good start has been squandered. The latest issue with Mystique was okay-ish but prior to that we've had a run of really bad stories.
Killing off Skin sucked, not because the character bit the dust - he was and is a minor character although I liked him a lot - but the way he was killed. He barely even got a mention in the issue he died in as all eyes were turned to Jubilee, and then there was a couple of issues in which it wasn't clear if he was dead or not. Then they couldn't even get his name right. Sheesh.
Then there was the explosive communion wafers. Seriously, don't get me started on that. The Church of Humanity was actually quite sinister when casey wrote them. Austen turned the whole thing into a joke.
And then he brought back Polaris and Havok. Okay, fine in itself. But WHY? bring back the to oldest but most boring characters in the X-men universe for what purpose? To send them nuts. Alex returns and is taken over by an evil presence that turns him against his friends in Exiles. Polaris returns and goes nuts and turns against her friends. Hmm, let me think. Where have I seen that before? Oh wait, that'll be in EVERY SINGLE Polaris and Havok story of the past 35 years then? Great. I mean, how many times -are- Havok and Polaris going to be corrupted by evil posessions before someone just gets sick of it and shoots one of them inna head? The point of bringing those two back to do a rehash of every single story they've appeared in since time and memorium is what?
And during all this Northstar and the other interesting characters have been barely mentioned. Please, concentrate on the characgters you do have before brining in heaps of others to either rehash boring storylines or kill them off.
That and Jono was really badly written when he did briefly appear. Someone needs to pick up Chamber soon before he slips back into comics limbo.
bah I say.

Date: 2003-07-27 03:27 pm (UTC)Who's left? Paige is a fully fledged X-man nowadays apparently, Jubes is apparently making a return to the team too. Jono's actually acting as a teaching assistant at the school just now and generally angsting at Paige every now and again. Synch and Angelo both sadly no more. M is in Europe with the X-Corps, Sean's laid up somewhere after having his throat cut by Mystique, Emma's in New Xmen still bringing about the deaths of more students, which leaves Penance who presumably is still with Monet's father along with Artie. Leech has been captured by Weapon X and has been turned into a living neutralising ray, poor little guy. Think that's eveyone.
Dunno where Howard the Duck is. ;)
