angelophile: (Seventh Seal - Got to laugh)

The trailer's just appeared for Four Lions, satirist Chris Morris' new comedy film about four hapless Islamic Jihadi terrorists from the north of England.

Morris has said he started working on the movie four or five years ago after he read an account of a botched terror attack. He read more widely on the subject, even going so far as to sit in on terror trials, and was amazed by the "staggering" evidence of incompetence on the part of real jihadis. "It was like an Ealing comedy," he said. "I felt there was a missing link and these guys were pretty foolish."

To paraphrase a review originally about Tom Lehrer: "Mr. Morris' muse is not fettered by such inhibiting factors as taste..."

After making quite a splash at Sundance, there's now a trailer, following on from the sneak peak revealed a few weeks ago.

Chris Morris has made a career - from The Day Today, working with Peter Cook and culminating in Brass Eye - of comedy that's also deeply discomforting. Anyone who thinks The Office is cringe-making should try sitting through the Brass Eye Pedophile Special - one of the most offensively shocking, disquieting, scary and, frankly, hilarious pieces of television ever produced. If not the most. Early reviews of Four Lions suggest the film is more of the same - both bitingly funny and upsetting and unsettling.

I'm probably going to hell alongside Chris Morris for finding the trailer to be absolutely, painfully funny.
