angelophile: (Rosencrantz & Guildenstern)

Some events in the world of showbusiness going on that deserve comment.

Good to see Juno get a bunch of nods in the Oscar nominations. I watched this the other day and had a blast. Ellen Page didn't set the screen on fire as Kitty Pryde, but she was superb in this movie, from the same team as Thank You for Smoking, which I also loved. Wonderfully and unashamedly cynical and I have a weakness for snarktastic, grungie, pipe-smoking cuties. Even pregnant snarktastic, grungie pipe-smoking cuties.

And Xenu bless Jerry O'Connell for taking on the juggernaut that is Tom Cruise and his Scientologist love bunnies. Although, I think he's blown his chances of being cast in Risky Business II: More Risky.

And on a more sobering note, the death of Heath Ledger, which is obviously on everyone's minds today. Sounds to me like it was accidental. He complained last week in an interview of only being able to sleep a couple of hours a night recently because his brain was always on the go. Friends and family have described him as being life-loving. It sounds like it was probably a tragic accident, and that's what his family are saying and I have no reason to argue, despite the press suggesting suicide. I can imagine him taking a few pills to help him sleep. Forgetting what he'd taken and taking a few more, or mixing pescription and over-the-counter pills. On top of his pneumonia and probably meds he was taking for that, it may well have killed him. The official verdict on Kenneth William's death ruled the same thing, although in that case I think it was probably a lot more open-ended.

Very sad news, either way and as usual in these circumstances, my heart goes out to his family, especially his two year old daughter.
