Farewell Flash

I missed this news yesterday, but depressingly it seems that George MacDonald Fraser, author of the Flashman papers, Richard Lester's Musketeers movies and Octopussy has passed away.

Not entirely unexpected at 82, but still sad, since he's brought me so much joy. I guess now we'll never hear the true stories of Brigadier-General Sir Harry Paget Flashman VC KCB KCIE's escapades with the Emperor Maximilian of Mexico, how he ended up serving with both sides in the American Civil War or his escapades at Roukes Drift or during the Boxer Rebellion.
I wonder if the rumoured Flashman TV films from Celtic Films (who did the Sean Bean Sharpe adaptations) will ever materialize. Last I heard James Purefoy, (Mark Antony in Rome), was lined up to play Flash.
Damnable bad news regardless, what?
