Not been keeping up with my comic reviews lately, but I guess I have time to squeeze some in. The last 2 week's purchases consisted of:

DAREDEVIL #59 - The nice theory that was put forward at the end of last issue… just sort of stalls here. It was a good enough read but for Bendis pretty average. But then, Bendis' work reads best as one complete storyarc so to pick the events of this issue out isn't the best thing to do. There was some development in terms of story but last month's revelation just didn't really seem to go anywhere much.

NEW MUTANTS #11/12 - Okay, the story arc wraps up with a bit of a damp squib to be honest. Issue 11 is pretty much a 'previously in New Mutants' type deal, which doesn't really let us know anything about Rahne we didn't know already apart from when she's in beast form suddenly her breasts swell up like watermelons. Mind you, everyone's seem to have this arc. The whole resolution to the story seemed contrived, with Josh healing himself and changing into something a little more unique at the same time. What made these issues good were the character of Nori and her interplay with David and all the development of Laurie, who finally got some kind of back story. And rather cute it was too. Laurie became a much more interesting character for me because of these issues/

NEW X-MEN #156/ UNCANNY X-MEN #443 - This was… Okay, I'll stand up and say it now - I was expecting, like I think everyone else was, more excrement to come floating from Chuck Austen this month. Four issues, 2 of Uncanny, 2 of New X-men. I was dreading them, expecting Emma and Scott to be ruined by a stupid plot and dreadful dialogue. I was wrong, this and the issues of Uncanny has been pretty damn good and up to the standard Austen hit early on, if not surpassing it. Over in Uncanny Lorna's showdown with Xavier of Genosha was brittle, snappy and with the right mix of pathos and anger from bth sides as they tried to discuss Magneto's actions and the interplay of the good versus evil argument was well handled. Here in New Emma and Scott managed to escape with their dignity intact and apart from a little bit of silliness in Emma's inability to use her telepathy after a blow on the head, the dialogue was pretty sparky, with Austen saying a lot of the things the readers have been saying - Scott has been a bad boy, Scott betrayed Jean, Scott and Emma making out on Jean's grave is horribly inappropriate, Emma dresses like a hooker - and while this isn't great writing, smacking a little too much of soap opera in parts, it was readable and enjoyable. Could it be that Austen has cottoned on to the views of the fans and is trying to improve his work? Let's hope so. If these issues are an indication, he might just do it.

WOLVERINE #14 - Oh gawd, a dreadful premise and one I have no interest in whatsoever. I think this book will be dropped again if this is the standard. Wolverine on heat and the Native. Ugh. And Feral's already an X character. You would have thought someone would have pointed that out.

EMMA FROST #10 $2.99 - Not bad, a bit more interesting than the previous issues as Emma's father rears his head from the depths like a hungry shark.

MARVEL 1602 #8 - The most overrated series in Marvel's history comes to an end. Neil Gaiman has produced an epic that looks good, had a good premise and is bland, boring and without any real substance whatsoever. Glad to see the end of it frankly.

WEAPON X #21 - Not bad, didn't like the fate of Gene Nation at all and Marrow's turn seems to be for the worst, even if it is in character. Not what I would have chosen for her. Of course, the big revelation meant nothing to me. Looks like Chamber's in trouble though. Hmm, it was readable but not great.

X-MEN UNLIMITED #2 - Bishop's a cop. You can tell. He says 'I'm a cop' a lot. In case you haven't noticed he's a cop. Bishop's a cop. He's a cop.
Jubilee apparently is a random generic character whose role in her story would have been better filled by anyone else. Overall view? Boring, poorly written and doesn't exactly fill yu with confidence if this is the 'new generation' of X-writers and artists.

X-TREME X-MEN #45 - The sage comes to an end with a bang. Well, more of a whimper. Last month's twist was the real surprise - the end was more of a wind down and Brogan just… ended. And just what was Callisto doing to Ororo? And why couldn't Kitty phase away from her? Silly points that made no sense and will probably never be explained, but just prove irritating.

RUNAWAYS VOL 1 PRIDE AND JOY DIGEST TP - Kirk was right. Damn him.
