Bonus points for recognising what song the title of this post comes from.

So, yeah, it was my birthday today. A subdued celebration, not because I've been particularly reflective or broody about being older or anything, but just because I'm never particularly big on celebrating my birthday, or any birthday really. It's a big deal for kids, but I've never really much cared about parties and celebrations and all that as I've got older.

So, yeah, 31 today. I suppose I should be reflective that, by my age, I should be settled down in a serious relationship (or, hell, even HAD a serious relationship), have a house and kids and so on. (Or alternatively, I could be running for my life from killer robots who wish to perform euthanasia on me.) Well, I have my flat, which I love, family which I adore and nephews and a niece that go some way to fulfilling the kid quota in my life. No relationship, or any signs of one, but, well, what can you say?

My parents are still out in Spain, so today I spent with my sister and family. They're off on holiday this week, so they were doing a lot of packing, but I still got plenty of time with them, and my niece, who I took for a walk in the afternoon and she was happily giving me directions which way she wanted to go in her pushchair. For a two year old I was quite taken aback by her sense of direction. She navigated us for about a mile, then back home again, tointing the way on every junction and only going wrong once. Impressive.

Anyway, had a nice day with them and Chinese takout tonight. I'm absolutely stuffed now. We were going to watch a couple of movies but ended up watching the final segment of Lord of the Rings instead, then the end of Top Gear (something with building a space shuttle from a Reliant Robin three wheeler. Very funny and impressive.) Came on now as both my sister and brother in law were exhausted, having been up in the night with my niece.

Anyway, a pleasant, family day, and I can think of worse ways to celebrate. I got some nice cards from the family and a shirt, T shirt and oil burner from my sister, cash from my other sister and promise of a present from Spain from my folks.

I can think of worse birthdays.

EDIT: And a big shout out to Grimbot for doing this awesome pic of me/my creepy baby avatar celebrating. Wheee!

Pfft. Sixteen tons, and for the life of me that's about the only line of that song I remember.

And that is an awesome picture.
