angelophile: (Vader & Elmo)
[personal profile] angelophile

Feeling more on the level tonight, after a decent day at work and a pleasant evening with family. Although my neice was barely awake and unhappy because of it, it was nice to see her regardless and my sister (who's training as a hairdresser) cropped my irritatingly scruffy hair.

We ended up watching the superlative Tsunami: The Aftermath which I can't praise highly enough. The subject matter was sensitively handled and given straight without any attempt at sentimentality, meaning you only ever felt sympathy for the victims of the tragedy. Strong performances by Tom Roth, Hugh Bonneville, Gina McKee, Toni Collette, and most expecially Chiwetel Ejiofor and Sophie Okonedo as parents struggling with the (presumed) loss of their only child. Powerful stuff and it gives you a real sense of perspective. I only saw this second part, but wish I'd seen the first, not in a ghoulish way, but there's few pieces of TV that have been so powerful and resisted playing the sentimental heartstrings instead to present factual events.

My depression seems like small peanuts really. I've felt generally better today anyway after talking at someone about my emoness and getting it off my chest and getting good and pissed off at myself for being a dope, which is a lot healthier than sitting stewing. Whether it's just a short term upswing, time will tell, but I am feeling better.

Anyway, I'm guessing from the lack of comments on recent posts which have just been about me me me means everyone wants a return to links of dancing hamsters and shit, so normal service will be resumed and all that.
