Ramblin' Man (The geeky stuff)

Ended up watching the first four episodes of Season 2 of Buffy on video over the weekend too. You know, I'd forgotten just how good that series was in the day. And realized how much it deteriorated over time. As entertaining as the later series of Buffy were, there's nothing to compare to the rapidity of the humor, the chemistry between all the characters and Spike and Dru's early appearances. As characters like Angel, Oz and Cordelia left and Xander became marginalized, because it happened over time I never really picked up on the deterioration being as extreme as it was. But looking at season 2 again after a few years, I fell in love with it again. Spike's introductory episode was so good. The character scary and funny by equal turn. And so kick ass. By god, he was neutered badly. And nice to see Jonothan's first appearance, almost becoming mummy food too.

Also ended up watching the Generation X TV movie. I'd forgotten most things about it, I haven't seen it in years. It's a bit of an odd fish. There's the good and the bad in an odd mix. There's the rather good - all the powers are well depicted, Emma and Sean's verbal sparring is great, Jubilee, Emma, Skin and Sean all stand up well, despite not having a great deal in common with their comic counterparts (I'm still bemused by Heather McComb's caucasian Jubilee). The plot isn't entirely terrible, while the climax is. Whether you'll care much for the villain depends of whether you think Max Headroom channeling Jim Carey sounds awesome or hateworthy. (Myself I find him too knowingly wacky, but there's some quite dark moments that work well where he's genuinely creepy.) The addition of the two characters in place of Husk and Chamber is disappointing, but they're not unlikable.

There's plenty bad too, however (the costumes and outfits are all particularly repulsive. She's the White Queen for god's sake, not the grey and horrible silver material Queen.), Frat boy Mondo, Monet barely used... There's plenty that's disconcerting about it too. I have the UK video release and apparently there's some pretty major differences between that version and what was shown on TV. (For example Emma trying to explain telepathy to the students. In the TV version, the exchange apparently went: "Ms. Frost, how are we supposed to relax and concentrate at the same time?" "Just imagine you're sitting in the bathroom Kurt." In the version I have the line is "Just imagine you're playing with yourself, Kurt.") It's also a little disconcerting to hear Jubilee suddenly come out with a line like "Are you fucking kidding me? That was the scariest fucking thing I've ever experienced in my life. I cosmically shit myself." I'm sure THAT wasn't in the kids TV version.

Ms. Frost, how are we supposed to relax and concentrate at the same time?

Just imagine you're playing with yourself, Kurt.

Ummm...I almost love Emma for saying that, even though I disregard that the Marvel Comics' Emma Frost was ever in that terrible movie.

I remember watching this "movie" on Youtube - I actually went through the entire hour. I didn't know if I wanted the one hour of my life back.

Ohhh, I'm such an obsessive dork. I actually just got a Rapidshare Premium to download this.....

I'm not entirely sure if this is the US or uncut release with added Emma snark and topless and potty mouthed Jubilee.

XDDD I was actually hoping for the UK version. I can deal with bad Emma snark...topless Jubilee? I forgot about that. EW. But now that you mentioned it, I just remembered the part when Emma had Jubilee take her shirt off.

EWW. That really was a terrible movie. Oh, well I downloaded it anyway. I'll just make fun of it while I watch out.
