Woohoo! Upgrade!

My boss has agreed to upgrade my computer. The question is whether I go for an upgrade for work, and take the G4 tower I have home, or get something decent for home. I'm erring towards a solid upgrade for work and spending a bit extra to get the G5 tower. It just depends what my boss goes for. The fact that we didn't pay for the G4, because the company went bust before we paid for it, might persuade him he can afford to spend a bit extra.

In other news, I am COMPLETELY KNACKERED.

On its way - a new G5 Power Mac Dual 2GHZ, 160GB Hard drive, DVD-R/CDRW Superdrive, ATI Radeon 9600 128MB graphics card, 1.5GB RAM with a Formac Gallery 1900 Oxygen Xtreme-3 19" Flat panel display and memory upgrade for my old G4.

Returning home with me - A G4 Power Mac, 1Ghz Dual, 768MB RAM, DVD-R/CDRW Superdrive, ATI Radeon 9000 Pro 64mb Graphics card with Formac 17" flatscreen.

Job done.

I agree - go with the nice upgrade for work. You may find it makes work-life easier. :)

Congrats. The cheesegraters (dual g5s) are sweet machines. I have a first gen (air cooled) dual 1.8 and have been very happy with it. Other than the processor speed, your extra half-gig of RAM and cooling, you've got practically the same machine as I do. Very nice. Also congrats on a sweet machine to take home. :)

Now all you have to do is find a good home for the imac. :) Parents/grandparents, perhaps? First gen iMacs fine for email and the like.

Oh yeah, if you use photoshop 7 at home, don't forget to pull down the g5 optimization plugins.

Well I'll have the G4 at home, but will use Photoshop at work on the G5, but am running Photoshop CS...

The imac's not mine and will be returning to work as an "upgrade" to the rather decrepid one that's there for internet browsing and email.

Ahh. I see. Makes sense to me. Must be nice to work for a place that not only provides you computers to use at home, but provides you *good* computers (Macs). :)

BTW, I thought the knackers was where you took a horse when it was too old/injured to work anymore. What is knackered? @set me=ignorant of Brit slang.

It is, and the slang usuage means extremely tired/no use to anyone..


I get a computer to use at home cos I pull so much unpaid overtime, so I should be able to have the option to set pages at home at weekends etc rather than have to come into the office.
