oops
i killed my keyboard, which means i will probabably be awol for the next couple of days. unfortunately i need a mac keyboard and will have to mail order it.
i actually think i may end up just getting a new computer. my boss seems okay with the idea as this one is work's anyway and isn't up to the task of running most typesetting software fast enough. so i mayvtry an twist his arm.
in case you werw wondering, the mac has a 'virtual keyboard' thing that is allowing me to type this.
unfortunately i cannot do capital letters or anything.
and this took about half an hour to type.

If you can, and if it works, consider going for a laptop. That way you can work outside of the office without having to deal with the hassle of someone messing with your office CD collection ;)
keyboards
Of course, if you want to talk the boss into a new machine, you should probably not share this fact with him/her. :)
As for new macs, I'd say go for the big dog - a dual G5. That will keep you in computing horsepower for years to come. Monitors and computers have different life cycles and spans, and the biggest problem I always had with the integrated computer/monitors like the imacs was that if the monitor died you were screwed.

Re: keyboards
Be advised also that the mini does not come with a keyboard or a mouse by default. You'd also need a monitor for it, obviously. Also, the general consensus is to stick as much RAM in those machines as will fit, though buying it from Apple is the expensive way to go.

Re: keyboards
I need to get something cheap really, which is either emac or mini. I've had no problems with my Imac and at least there's SOME room for expansion with the emac. With the mini yu basically have to prise the ting apart and replace whatever's in the ONE memory slot with something bigger. They're not built to be upgraded. On the other hand it's all seperates.
But maybe the all in-one G5 is the way to go or something. Don't wanna push my luck...
Alternatively, we have a tempremental G4 at work. I could suggest we upgrade from that and I take on the G4...
Re: keyboards
I'd still suggest at least broaching the subject of the dual G5, on the grounds that it will last longer and ammortize better. Plus it's beaucoup fast for rendering and graphics crunching.
