A little bit of this, a little bit of that
For those not in the know, Scans_Daily now has a new (possibly temporary) home. Say hello to Scans_Daily 2.0. If you wish to continue reading it on Livejournal, there's a Livejournal feed here too. There's also
noscans_daily, with all the comics discussion of Scans_Daily without any of the scans. Spread the word.
In other news, and not wanting to gloat, I LOST 9LB THIS WEEK. I always lose a chunk the first week of any diet with the effects of detox, but to lose 9lb is... staggering. I set myself a target of losing the 20lb that's crept on since my last diet, so that puts me half way there.
The problem last time is that I lost a bunch of weight in preparation for going on holiday and when I was there I ate well. When I got back, I could see Christmas coming and no motivation for keeping to my diet and over Christmas and after, with illnesses, I was binge eating. So I rapidly and unhealthily gained weight.
Normally that's not the case as the diet I follow is based around healthy eating. As much fruit and veg as you want. On "red" days as much fresh meat as you like, on "green" days pastas, pulses, rice etc. With added "healthy extras" like cereal, bread, cheese, milk etc. In theory, not just a diet but also a healthy eating plan. In the past that approach has worked and, although eventually I've drifted away from it and gained weight again, it's been a slow process. This time the summer's ahead, no holidays planned, no reason to suddenly move away from the diet and I'll be regularly going down the gym, so hopefully once I get to my target weight I'll be able to maintain it.
The gym's helping. Deadline last week (which probably aided with the weight loss - gym+healthy eating+STRESS=weight loss). I didn't get the chance to go much during the week - went Saturday, managed Tuesday night and went again this Saturday. Already the weight loss and training's starting to make a difference and the exercise is getting easier. But I need to talk to the personal trainer and sort out a plan. Going off to badminton tonight, though. I always used to play, but haven't in about 10 years, so it'll be a more fun form of exercise than simply staring at a wall running for an hour.
What else?
Deadline went... well, I wouldn't say smoothly, but as expected. Relatively smoothly early in the week and then total panic in the last couple of days, which seems to be common with recent deadlines. The usual psychosis as the 15th hour of the shift clicked past and I can very close to working my way through a bar of chocolate and a bottle of wine when I eventually got home but thankfully resisted both temptations. That's the only trouble - I got bought a bar of chocolate for my birthday and it's been sat there as a test of my willpower, unopened. Eventually, though, I know my willpower will crumble. Friday night was almost it, but I resisted. Hoorah.
In other news, as you may have noticed *cough*, I've become addicted to Twitter. Find me there under the usual screenname. And if you do add me, tell me who you are, because I'll probably have no clue unless you use the same screenname everywhere, like me.
Watched No Country For Old Men and Disturbia during the week. Thoughts on both will no doubt follow.
And that's it for now. I leave you with news of a flashmob of 200 Morphs descending on the Tate Modern in tribute to Tony Hart, whose death I mentioned last month.
Which reminds me that when I was down at my sister's, we took my nephews to an animation exhibition which had a lot of stuff from Aardman Animations, who produce Wallace and Gromit, and there amongst them was the original and one and only Morph.
So I can add him to the list of celebrities I've come in contact with. Here's the pic I took of Morph and Chas:
