A few mindless reviews of stuff I've bought that I wanted to share with people for no particular reason. Yes, I have opinions I want to share and haven't found anyone to share them with recently so I'l inflict the lot of you with my recent purchases...
New X-men - The latest issue concluding the Riot at Xavier's storyline. This storyline has got me utterly hooked on New X-men again after a few issues that were okay but nothing special. The latest issue was again sublime, and dammit, Morrison has really got me -caring- about the characters. The fact that he's put a lot of his focus onto his two favourite characters - Emma and Scott, has paid off. Emma's characterisation in the issue veered from pathos to laugh out loud cynicism... Brilliant. And Quitely's art seems to get better and better. The first three or four 'sans-dialogue' action pages were wonderfly drawn, a real sense of movement as Glob (one of my favourite characters) chased after a buss loaded with humans. Just silly things like the warping of perspective to show movement and the reflection on the windscreen of the car - it really doesn;t get much better than that. That's comic book art at its finest.
The Cuckoos continue to delight and entertain, as do Angel and the Beak. Morrison said he was determined to make people like those characters and dammit, he's succeeded. I adore the 'Special Class'...
Other purchases... hmmm, the latest issue of Ultimate X-men was annoyingly good. I don't know why it is when I set y mind on cancelling or not reading another comic in a series they suddenly get good again. X-treme X-men has done the same - perhaps due to the fact that Emma, one of my favourite characters, was actually well written in the issue and the Storm and Whote Queen bitch fight rather entertaining. And Cyclop's characterisation in Ultimate X-men was equally well handled...
Hrm, was going to rant about more but work presses me to actually do something. May write more later. Cheerio for now...
